Karen Chekerdjian has been invited to experiment and expose her work and the Institut du Monde Arabe Museum within the framework of D.Days. Entitled “Respiration”, the exhibition will begin on May 31st and will be open through D.Days until the 27th of August, 2016.
Born in Beirut in 1970, Karen Chekerdjian grew up in Lebanon during the civil war. In 1992 she pursued film studies. She then worked as a director and graphic designer in Beirut when she decides to change horizons and moved to Milan where she obtained a Master of Industrial Design from Domus Academy in 1997. The early years of her career were impacted by her collaboration with Massimo Morozzi, founding member of Archizoom, and her work for EDRA furniture. Four years later she decided to return to Beirut, a context in which the industrial sector was almost non-existent, and developed a design practice based on close collaborations with local craftsmen. She opened her own studio in 2001, which has since steadily grown. Karen Chekerdjian has participated in several exhibitions in Lebanon and around the world.
